Yes, I knew a fellow that hooked up an oil cooler, to a Savage LS 650, but can't remember were he tapped off of. Anyway he said that it prevented the oil from warming up in cold weather. There is a need to have a valve to shut off the cooler and also provide a bypass when not needed.

Why would you want one? The Suzuki DR model has one, but this engine is designed so that the oil cools the valves and upper piston area by flowing through a fluid jacket, much like a water jacket in liquid cooled engines.
